I completed a 60-hour course of study in APIT and am board certified to provide this effective healing technique. Originally developed in China in the early 1950’s, first applied as “blocking therapy” injection or “neuro-injections.” This later evolved into APIT, a recent innovation of traditional acupuncture that aims to enhance and prolong the effect of stimulation of acupuncture points.
Acupoint injection therapy (APIT) is the injection at an acupuncture point of a small amount of saline, a drug, an herb/plant extract, homeopathic, or vitamin (i.e. Vitamin B-12, Vitamin C) in the form of sterile substances into acupuncture points by means of hypodermic needles but not intravenous therapy to promote, maintain, and restore health; for pain management and palliative care; for acupuncture anesthesia; and to prevent disease.
The concept is that injecting and stimulating acupuncture points with any medicinal liquid will provide the dual effect of acupuncture and medicinal liquid. By combining the principles of acupuncture medicine with modern injection therapies, we employ a holistic approach to care, have longer lasting effects, medication is directed to the targeted area, there’s a rapid initial effect, and no “first-pass” effect (avoiding the metabolism of orally administered drugs by gastrointestinal and hepatic enzymes, that result in the reduction in the amount of the drug reaching the systemic circulation).
Clinical applications for “blocking therapy” or “point blocking”:
- Facial Rejuvenation.
- Sagging Skin and Tissue Toning.
- Body Contouring.
- Weight Loss.
- Regenerative Therapies (PRP and Prolotherapy).
- Gynecological Conditions, i.e. Dysmenorrhea.
- Pain management: acute and chronic pain and inflammation.
- Sports Injuries.
- Fatigue Syndromes.
- Autoimmune Disorders.
- Chronic and Latent Viral Diseases, i.e. Shingles.
- Cold and Flu (prevention and treatment).
- Gastric Ulcer.
- Rheumatoid Arthritis.
- Acute Conjunctivitis.
- Bacterial Dysentery.
